Teh first fantasy fiction book I read was Marion Zimmer-Bradley 'Mists of Avalon'. Got me hooked. I read all her books, I loved her writing. I asked my mother who a good author was and she said Katharine Kerr. Talk about generations of reading. Started with my mother, to my aunties, older sister, then cousins and finally me - 'Daggerspell'.

WOW I am hooked. I have re-read the whole cycle twice. My favourite character besides, Nevyn, Jill and Rhodry is Dallandra! She reminds me of Jill.

Whenever I think of the whole cycle, the one thing that sticks is my mind is Jill's last image of her staunch father Cullyn - with flowers in his hair. Dont know why this is, I think its one of those moving images that stick in your mind forever.

Anyway, Katharine I sit here and think, please dont let it end. hahaha It saddens me when I think the Silver-Mage is the last book. You are a wonderful author and I salute you for 15 years of reading.

Oh by the way, I am a kiwi!

Katherine Kerr- words cannot express how much i love this series, your writing style and the fact that your characters are not perfect nor do the plots unfold in predictable ways. The Deverry Saga is far superior to junk like Eragon (which plagarises off almost every fantasy book under the sun).
Your series has really influenced my writing and I sent an excerpt to my friend who told me the way I wrote was "almost as good a Katherine Kerr." she was probably lying, but that comment made my day :)
thanks for this series :)

Found this page while researching a little about the Deverry series. I think I was around 16-17 when I first picked up the first book, I must admit I had a really hard time following the story back then with the names and years twisting and turning. Read the first 4 books over maybe 2 years and then jumped to the 7th book and took it from there (8 and 9)... hey it was a dragon on the front, and yes i did judge it by it's cover. Anyway. I started all over from the first book a couple of weeks back and planning to once and for all go thru the whole series this time. The only thing about this that scares me ALOT is that it will end. Every time I have re-read these books and haven't had the chance to continue I have felt empty inside. Thank you Katharine for the most wonderful and epic fantasy story ever told. I still have at least 6 books to go, I will try to read them as slow as I can.

All the best.

Brilliant! that sounds like it may be the one. I got them both out of the library at the same time as they had dragon in the title (i dont choose all books on that basis) and eagles and boars lilli and lillith can easily be mistaking during recall. Thank you very, very much Narda and also for the info on medieval armour that makes a noise sounds similar to the idea sarmatian calvary used with their dragon head things i think. Thanks again.

HAHA!! I finally got it! The series about the girl who became a King's Lion is the "Crown of Stars" series by Kate Elliott. A complicated story, because it goes on for several years, and more and more stuff gets revealed, some as lies and some as truth. I appreciated The author's research into various historical bits--for instance, the horde of bad guys who wore iron "wings" as part of their armor, and it "whirred" as they rode, terrifying the opposition. Turns out there were some real historical soldiers who were armed in such a fashion, I saw it on the History Channel after reading the books. Too bad I don't remember who they were.....Any way, good reading to you!

Marc, you have two books by different authors mixed together! Lili (Lillorigga) was a daughter of the Boar Clan in Kit's Deverry series, in "The Red Wyvern". The vision-plagued girl stolen and abused by an evil "priest" was in another series, and I cannot find my copy of it. Must have gone on to another reader. There were about 4 books in that series, and I'm sorry I can't give you any more information than this! If it comes to me in the middle of the night, I'll post it.

Hi
this is only place i could find to ask this question. I read a book about 10 years ago. the main story was a type of priest character took a young woman from her village. She had visions of either past/ future and im sure i remember boar clan mentioned and the girls name being lili. I think it was a katharine kerr book was wondering if it rings a bell with anyone and if so the title. I know its not the red wryvern as i have that one. knowing me i may have read two books and in my memory slammed them together. Any help will be appreciated.

Oops, just noticed I spelled your name wrong. Sorry, Katharine.

(I should'a just called you Kit instead. Since it's my name too, I probably would have got it right!) LOL
