HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy series “A Song of Fire and Ice” into a dramatic series to be written and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
This could be incredible!

You know, now that I think of it, this could be a way to get a whole slew more subscribers to sign up to HBO who haven’t before ….

Oh, I expect it will.
Great thing is that it’s also doing each book as a season, rather than shoe-horning everything in to a movie or even a miniseries. And George will write one episode of each season, which is an extra treat.
Just sent him a congrats. He doesn’t have the announcement up on his site yet, so I expect he was waiting for HBO to slip the word to Variety. Day after the Golden Globes is a good time for the announcement to come out. Actually, two days after, but I expect there was some sobering up to do yesterday.
This is very exciting news. I can hardly wait.
