Great thing is that it's also doing each book as a season, rather than shoe-horning everything in to a movie or even a miniseries.  And George will write one episode of each season, which is an extra treat.

Just sent him a congrats.  He doesn't have the announcement up on his site yet, so I expect he was waiting for HBO to slip the word to Variety.  Day after the Golden Globes is a good time for the announcement to come out.  Actually, two days after, but I expect there was some sobering up to do yesterday.</description>
