Which 'this,' Lois?

I hope I'm not confusing evolution and development with 'progress,' for I surely do not see it that way.

My goal is to look at what is going on, not to make judgments of right or wrong about it.

Though, True Confessions Time again -- vampires as sexy lovers have truly gotten out of hand in the minds of So Many! Which is why I kinda cheered at the sucking slurps of the truly clueless in Buffy, Season 2, when the vamp wannabe kids called them "the Lonely Ones," and dreamed of being taken and becoming One With Them.

Course Our Slayer in Sunnydale managed to get most of 'em outta the Factory before Spike and Undead cronies got to slurp much.

You have to give Buffy this credit: any time you see vamps feeding it is anything but sexy or romantic -- it is gruesome and gross and, yes, horrible.

I'm eager to get started posting on the Buff, but I'm running behind, due to several circumstances beyond my control.

Love, C.

Hopefully I shall be able to answer this when I begin the Buffy postings. I have been thinking about this! I wanted to finish re-viewing season 4 though, before I started posting about this influential series. I've taken some extensive notes whilst re-viewing seasons 1, 2, 3. Season 4 is a big change in the show, and not only because they aren't in h.s. now. It's how Buffy herself is being treated.

Henry Connolly asked whether vampires are more considered the sexy anti-hero types now, rather than the predator they used to be. The sensitive vampire, sad for his fate, and the glam vamp are both very much creatures that emerge in the 20th C's 70's, along with the 'feminist' view of vamps, as Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's -- so much so that being a vamp plays very little role with her hero. His function is to show the ever-recurring evil & cruelty of humanity through history, with this cruelty most punished upon women.

But now we've got to get outta dodge to the burbs for a musicians' 4th: a cookout, of course, but the making music with friends in lieu of fireworks.

Okay, this is an actual comment, hopefully with some substance.

Haven't vampires changed to the point where they are now the sexy anti-heroes, rather than despoilers?

I guess you could say this is the benefits of 100 plus years of progress. The women men used to fear would be taken away from them no longer wants their protection. In fact, their protection is an unwelcome intrusion.

I guess the reason vampires have never appealed to me is that I've never thought they were sexy.

And my question: if vampirism isn't about women but about men, then is Buffy re-envisioning the story to be about women? or?

Particularly in light of your comment in an earlier installment that in Buffy sex turns men into monsters.
