Battle descriptions must be really challenging because any protagonist would have such a limited view of what's really going on... Which suddenly makes me realize the value of having, say, Nevyn going up to a high elevation to watch things and possibly ask for weather intervention! This fall I'm teaching a writing-intensive history course and the technicalities of the craft are pretty much the same whether it's for school or fiction (and anyway, which is which!?)...
