Battle descriptions must be really challenging because any protagonist would have such a limited view of what's really going on... Which suddenly makes me realize the value of having, say, Nevyn going up to a high elevation to watch things and possibly ask for weather intervention! On another note, thanks to everybody for the entertaining and enlightening discussions and digressions on writing. This fall I'm teaching a writing-intensive history course and the technicalities of the craft are pretty much the same whether it's for school or fiction (and anyway, which is which!?)...
