Another Take on Point of View
Lois Tilton August 12th, 2006
This is a pointer to an article I think will be of interest to the writers gathered here: “Point of View: Reading Beyond the I’s” by Juliette Wade, in the latest issue of the Internet Review of Science Fiction. http://www.irosf.com/q/zine/article/10311
It’s a link to a site that requires registration and intends to charge.
I’d have been interested in the article, but without a bit more in-depth information about what, exactly, lurks behind the link I’ve got no interest to jump through all those hoops.
There is no charge now, registration is free.
The article does a close analysis of some examples of prose to show how the indicators like pronouns and articles work to convey information.
Lois, I loved the site. Thanks for posting it. There are some terrific articles on IROSF that are very helpful to new writers. (Note that this is coming from a new writer.)
Cheers,
Erin
And reviews, too!
I signed up for IROSF awhile ago and they haven’t started charging yet. There’s lots of interesting things there. Don’t forget to delve in the archives. I love con reports and there’s one up about the latest WisCon. I may have to make plans to go to the next one. If I can dig up the money somewhere.
This particular article didn’t hold my attention. It was a bit too much like diagramming a sentence. It works, don’t tear it apart! But I can see how it could be helpful to writers who want to improve and refine their point of views.
